Love The One You’re With

“Something inside you emerges....an innate, indwelling peace, stillness, aliveness. It is the unconditioned, who you are in your essence. It is what you had been looking for in the love object. It is yourself.”

— Eckhart Tolle

Valentine’s Day is two weeks away. It is a day that we associate with romantic love. A day created initially by the pope to honor St. Valentine, an amalgamation of two Christian martyrs of legend. Apparently, numerous Christian martyrs were called Valentine. St. Valentine is known as the patron saint of lovers. Over the centuries Valentine’s Day has evolved into a day designated to express our love to our beloveds. Many of us, also expect to receive an expression of love from that special someone in our lives.

We often have visions of how we want our spouses, partners, or lovers to show their love to us. Maybe you want to be wined and dined, receive flowers, cards, candy, or some other gift. Maybe you would like to hear some specific words, such as, “You are so beautiful” or “I adore you.”

In our minds, we often have a script already written for how we would like to be loved. The challenge for our beloveds is they are not given the script. Then when things do not go as we fantasized; we are disappointed. We do not want to tell our beloveds what we are wanting, because we believe they “should” know. We resign ourselves to never getting the love we want. (Note to self: You can ask for what you want!)

What if this year, you were you own Valentine? What if you stopped waiting for what you wanted and loved the one you are with: YOU!

You are one-of-a kind. You were designed with a unique blueprint, embedded in your DNA. There is no other person exactly like you.

You are a powerful creator, a multi-dimensional being. Your dimensions are physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. You are made of heaven and earth. You are a dream come true.

Inside of you is a well-spring of love. Love, your true essence, patiently awaits your attention. A hardened heart, negative thoughts, fear, and unresolved emotional wounds can block its flow. Kindness, compassion and self-love are the “keys” that open the protective “locks” that you may have, knowingly or unknowingly, put into place to keep your heart safe from hurt.

Your body knows where the “river” of love is frozen. When you listen to your body with love and hold your heart with tenderness, the hard, icy places within you can melt. Love flows. You can see and feel the beautiful being that you are.

Now is the time to connect with and cherish your heart, to listen to its wisdom and treat yourself in the way that you long to be treated. I truly believe you are worth of a such a treat. Do you?
